MONKEY KING & SKELETON DEMON adapted a famous chapter of the classic Chinese literature, Journey to the West, for the screen performance. The twisted image, the blurred lens, and the lo-fi quality were preserved to inform the audience the extreme environment it was made in, as well as to display its authentic “pandemic” identity.

About Haiqing Zhong

Affiliated to the National Theatre of China, Haiqing Zhong is an award-winning playwright and a theatre activist. He holds a MA from Shanghai Theatre Academy and a PhD from the Central Academy of Drama, China. He enjoys a rising reputation in Chinese theatre sphere and has been focusing in his works on monologic dramaturgy specifically. His plays have appeared on the stage of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, as well as Serbia and Morocco.

About The Festival

The Segal Center Film Festival on Theatre and Performance (FTP) is an annual event showcasing films drawn from the world of theatre and performance. The festival presents experimental, emerging, and established theatre artists and filmmakers from around the world to audiences and industry professionals. The 7th annual festival will focus on work for the screen created by theatre artists during the Time of Corona. The festival will be held digitally from March 1st – 15th 2022.
