About The Fifth Wheel
Since the withdrawal of the allied troops, the artists of the all-women Simorgh Theatre in Herat have been rushing from hideout to hideout. In the underground, they deal with texts “From the Reading Book for City Dwellers” by Bertolt Brecht and bring into the picture what this perspective makes possible. Robert Schuster, with Die KULA Compagnie, sees himself as a transmitter between these women and an international public.
About Robert Schuster / KULA Compagnie
Robert Schuster is a German theatre and opera director. In 2004 he accepted a professorship at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin. He headed the directing department. His first feature film “Draussen ist Drüben” was made in 2012, an examination of his youth in the GDR. In 2016, these meetings gave rise to the transnational Kula Compagnie. The Kula Company brings together actors from different countries. The experimental laboratory remains the working principle of the company.
About The Festival
The Segal Center Film Festival on Theatre and Performance (FTP) is an annual event showcasing films drawn from the world of theatre and performance. The festival presents experimental, emerging, and established theatre artists and filmmakers from around the world to audiences and industry professionals. The 7th annual festival will focus on work for the screen created by theatre artists during the Time of Corona. The festival will be held digitally from March 1st – 15th 2022.
