About School of Resistance

In search of strategies of artistic resistance, IIPM – International Institute of Political Murder and NTGent founded a globally networked School of Resistance as a hybrid livestream debate series. As a symbolic institution of the future, the initiative examines aesthetic practices of resistance, discussing art as a transformative, reality-creating tool. What started as an online debate series has in the meantime grown into a multidisciplinary multi-day event in which artists, activists, philosophers and engaged citizens search and imagine a more sustainable vision of our common planetary future, supported by institutions and initiatives like Akademie der Künste Berlin, European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, European Alternatives, #LeaveNoOneBehind, medico international, Münchner Kammerspiele, Schauspiel Köln, Wiener Festwochen and many others. On March 4 and 5, the School of Resistance will address at NTGent the issue of regularization of migrants in Europe and their struggle for citizenship and recognition. Together with #GentZonderGrenzen, In My Name and La Coordination de Sans Papiers, the undocumented refugees in Gent voice their political will. Who are the global citizens of tomorrow?

“School of Resistance enables us to test new creative strategies of political mobilization and to deepen the exchange between artists and activists, also transnationally. In this way, we respond to the social crises of our time and explore possibilities of solidarity.” -Eline Banken(NTGent), Milo Rau (IIPM/NTGent), Martin Valdés-Stauber (IIPM), Kasia Wojcik (IIPM)

School of Resistance consists of 16 online episodes and 3 hybrid events (Akademie der Künste Berlin, Schauspiel Köln, Münchner Kammerspiele). You can find all details to each episode in the archive on Howlround Theatre Commons: https://howlround.com/series/school-resistance
