About Zoom in: Festival zum Netztheater in der Freien Szene (Zoom in: Online Festival for Independent Net Theatre Productions

VIEW THE FULL PROJECT HERE.

In the Corona crisis, the performing arts have gone online. There they discovered and developed new stages and formats. Most and most innovative net theater productions are by independent theater makers and groups, known and new. Even before the pandemic, the independent scene had (in comparison with institutional theatres) a knowledge advantage in net theater, which it has now expanded.

Over three days in April 2021, the “Zoom in” festival organized by the online-theater magazine nachtkritik.de documented the current state of the net theater with six guest performances created for various digital platforms. In discussions with artists and panels, the festival took stock of the current situation and asked what is necessary and useful in the development of an infrastructure for independent net theater – both from an institutional and an artistic perspective. Workshops offered further education on legal issues in the digital space, hybrid productions for analog and online audiences, and how to get started with programming.

About nachtkritik.de

nachtkritik.de is a German-language digital theater magazine. The morning after the premiere, nachtkritik.de publishes theater reviews of all important productions in German-language theater selected by its fourteen-member editorial team. More than 60 authors report from all over the German-speaking world. Texts on international theater topics by international authors are also published regularly.
Since its founding in 2007, nachtkritik.de has always paid special attention to digital theater formats. In order to explore and discuss the extent to which the Internet influences and changes the public sphere and cultural techniques, nachtkritik.de initiated the conference “Theater and the Net” in 2013, which it developed together with the Heinrich Böll Foundation and has organized annually since then. In the last two years, the nachtkritik.de editorial team has increasingly not only discussed digital theater formats but also made them available to the public via stream.
